What do business leaders and Lady Gaga have (or should have) in common? Concern for mental health in the workplace.

The American singer and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, created the Born This Way Foundation, which

has spearheaded research indicating that 89% of young people rate mental health and kindness as a very high priority in the professional environment.

The study surveyed 1,200 18- to 29-year-olds who are currently or will soon be working. Although it was

carried out in the United States, one can easily extrapolate this data to other countries. According to them, both Generation Z

and younger millenials prioritize mental health and kindness at work. However, they do not believe that many

employers offer adequate support systems - only 32% of employees work in environments where paid time off is provided for them to take care of their physical or mental health.

In a recent interview in the US, Gaga and her mother warned that companies that don't prioritize mental health risk losing Generation Y and Z talent.

And the survey corroborates this warning: the vast majority of respondents (77%) were more likely to apply for a job that listed "kindness" as an important company value.
