Young singer Olivia Rodrigo has already started her 2022 in style: she has been selected by Billboard as 2022's "Woman of the Year," and will
receive an honor during the 2022 Billboard Women in Music Awards ceremony on March 2 at the YouTube Theater in Hollywood Park, Inglewood, California.
"Olivia's path to becoming a superstar is the stuff of pop music legends," Billboard editorial director Hannah Karp said in a statement.
"Her talents as a storyteller and songwriter have made Olivia one of the most authentic and exciting new artists
to explode onto the scene in years. Connecting with audiences across generations through emotion-filled songs about broken hearts, jealousy, and growing up
she has achieved incredible success for a first-time artist. We are excited to
celebrate her unique voice and her tremendous impact on fans around the world in such a short period of time."
SOUR, Olivia's debut album, released in 2021, reached an all-time high number of streams for a debut female album and became the most
listened-to album on digital platforms in a week by a female artist in Spotify history (with 385 million plays). All 11 tracks reached some position in the top
30 of the Billboard Top 100, making Olivia Rodrigo the first singer - and fourth artist overall - to simultaneously land 11 or more songs in those positions.
