Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II on Thursday, 8, at the age of 96, Charles Philip

Arthur George (Charles III), her eldest son, takes over the reign of the United Kingdom.

The former Prince of Wales and current King, at 73, was first in line of succession to the throne.

As the London Bridge operation points out, Charles will take over the crown on Friday the 9th.

Charles' first pronouncement has just been issued by the Royal Family on his behalf.

"We deeply mourn the passing of a beloved sovereign and a much-loved mother.

'I know that her loss will be deeply felt across the country, the Kingdoms and the

Commonwealth and by countless people around the world. During this time of mourning

and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by

our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.'
